Teaming up with our Product Spotlight once again, this week we're checking out two of our favourite prop articles.
First up, our most popular and most in depth piece yet: Te Korero mo te Poi (The Story of Poi)
Did you know… The word poi is both the name of the object (noun) in the singular and plural, and what you do with that object (verb).
Take a dive into the fascinating world of poi, and don't forget, it’s important to remember the roots of poi and to show appreciation by ensuring the history and the tikanga (the correct procedure, and customary system of values and practices) of traditional poi are shared and respected as the taonga (treasure) that they are.
An important part of this respect and appreciation is sharing the knowledge and history of poi. We encourage you to share this article within your own community (flow or otherwise) and help us spread the story of this incredible art form.
Next up, we're taking a look at the staff, with: Isn't a Staff just a Stick?
Well, yes. At it's most basic form, a staff is just a stick. However, there's a lot more to it than that!
Staff spinning has been around in one form or another for thousands of years. The martial arts are one of the most common origins of prop manipulation, and the staff is no different.
