We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again - how great is the Kiwi flow community? The encouragement we regularly see within the community, and the support we receive ourselves from you is just incredible. If you follow our Instagram, you may have noticed that we’ve been sharing heaps of content from Kiwi flow artists. Y’all are awesome and we absolutely love seeing you do your thing!
You’ve all been keeping us very busy over the past couple of weeks and we truly appreciate the support. We’ve even put the kids and dog to work getting all your orders out!
There are heaps of regional fire and flow groups around the country who get together for regular spins, jam sessions, skill sharing, and fun. We highly recommend checking out what’s on in your area and heading along. You’ll have some fun, maybe learn some new skills or teach someone else some new skills, and quite likely make some awesome new friends. Check out our list to find your local group.
BIRTHDAY GIVEAWAY
As part of our birthday celebrations, we’ve been giving away doubles props every week. First up we had our special edition double wick fire staff (grab yours now!). Last week we gave away dance hoop doubles.
This week we are giving away TWO SETS OF POI! We’ve got one set of silky sock poi and one set of 50mm wick fire poi to give away to two very lucky winners. PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT - POI
Poi are one of the most well known flow props across the globe, and are often the prop that gets people into flow arts. Did you know that poi originated here in Aotearoa and have an extremely fascinating history?
Our article Te Korero mo te Poi (The Story of Poi) takes a look at the history and origins of poi, how poi have evolved in the flow arts world, and how we can appreciate this important taonga (treasure) by ensuring the history and the tikanga (the correct procedure, and customary system of values and practices) of traditional poi are shared and respected.

With just the right amount of bounce, these poi are a pleasure to use and are sure to catch the eye of friends and family everywhere you go. Easily find your perfect length by wrapping the end of each poi around your hands as needed. Experiment by tying a knot or adding a smaller knob to hold on to once you find your ideal length. These lightweight poi are even suitable for the smaller members in your family to try out - under adult supervision of course! The clever soft poi design means these wicks are simply that – all wick. There are no large or solid metal parts poking out, so there’s less risk of injury if they hit you. It also means there is more wick than a metal core poi, which gives a longer burn time. The Youth Circus Festival Circability is hosting a FREE event for all-abilities with a series of workshops for youth between the ages of 12-24 years old. The Extravaganza Fair The Extravaganza Fair spends the summer travelling around NZ offering up an array of free, family-friendly entertainment and they’re kicking off their season this weekend. From art to circus and magic shows, market stalls to information on solar power and alternative living - there really is something for everyone. |

Fire & Flow NZ are super stoked to be part of Elektra, South Taranaki’s annual fire and light festival in Hāwera’s King Edward Park. This is a family friendly event, so if you’re in the area, come along and do say hi if you see us! Friday 22 September, 6pm – 9pm.
We are also regularly at the Seaside Market at Ngamotu Beach, New Plymouth with a stall full of your favourite Fire & Flow NZ goodies. If you want to come and try something out, or you’re in the area and want to say hi, come along on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, 9am-2pm.
